ParticipantJust taken delivery of a brake/third Dapol Toplight coach. May not be correct for my layout, but, hey, you can’t have too many toplights.
It was easy to convert to EM! The existing wheelsets were pulled out and run fine. No brakes were harmed in the conversion! The only thing I needed to cut out was the underbogie brake rigging, which would only be viewable from underneath anyway. Simples.
Considering how some manufacturers seem intent on making such a conversion into a ‘major’ exercise, then all I can say on this one is ‘thank you Dapol for making life easy for EM-ers’.

ParticipantHi Dai,
would you please confirm for me that this coach is one of the recently introduced Dapol mainline / city stock? Thanks.

ParticipantHello David,
Yes, it is. I bought a late livery GWR version of the brake third ref 4P 020 201. Nice weighty coach with some DCC lighting on board, not that I’ll use that element! Iirc, £55 or so from Rails.

ParticipantThanks Dai,
I have placed an order with Rails, like yourself totally inappropriate for my layout but they look good!
Could you please let me know the size and make of the replacement wheels and axles that you used? Such items are in short supply here so I would need to order them and want to make sure they will fit.
Thanks again,
David

ParticipantEven more good news, David: I just pulled out the existing wheelsets, and that worked fine! I was prepared to use Alan Gibson coach wheels, but not needed. I’m very pleased with the coach: it’s quite weighty, stable and runs smoothly.

ParticipantThanks Dai,
My confusion about replacing the wheels did not realize what you meant by ‘pulled out’.
