John CutlerParticipantAfter testing quite a few couplings, it seems appropriate to publish a comparison of the various types available to the EM modeller.
This table is in the form of an Excel spreadsheet; hopefully you can read or download it.
It is unavoidably subjective and not exhaustive. Much of the info relies on third parties.
This should be useful as a starting point for those who wish to try out coupling options.
Note the attached table has been updated; see the next post.

Richard SymsParticipantHello John,
Very interesting and fair comparison.
Just to let you know, I have had to increase Lincs coupler kit prices recently. Cost is now £6.00 for a 10 coupler kit (i.e. 60p per coupler) and £3.50 per re-usable assembly jig (only 1 ever required).

Steve YoungKeymasterJohn,
Many thanks for your spreadsheet. I had been undecided which style of couplings to use. A short time ago at the local clubs open day I spotted some Bachmann vans at a silly price. Trader said some strange couplings had been fitted and he wanted to get shot of them. So, I paid £12 for 4 vans fitted with Sprat & Winkle couplings and a few tries on a length of 00 track convinced me that these were the couplings that would suit me best.
Your spreadsheet confirms it for me. Ultimately this is my personal choice.
Regards
