Hi, Has anyone tried to convert an N7 to EM gauge using the Oxford Rail wheelsets? Or, more to the point is there anyone who would be prepared to take this on for me as I developed arthritis in my fingers which is making life difficult to say the leastand the N7 is the last of the loco fleet to be converted. I will of course be prepared to meet any reasonable expenses

I have converted an Oxford Rail N7 to EM but not using the Oxford wheels. The loco uses 2mm axles and I used a spare Gibson J15 conversion kit designed for the Hornby product. It was a very straightforward conversion with everything dropping in to place as one would hope.

I haven’t yet finished, But I have got further than just starting:

Evidence from a fellow club member suggests it’ll come through, but does need a sliver taken off the backs of the driving wheel tyres. The Gibson J15 approach sounds good. I admit I still mess up fitting Gibson drivers. Practice makes perfect…

I also converted an N7 to EM using the Gibson wheels designed for the Hornby J15 and it was one of the easiest loco conversions I have carried out. Although I usually use a GW Models quartering jig it is entirely possible to get the quartering right by looking through both wheels once they are on the axle and lining up the spokes (16 spokes to a wheel) – I only know because on one occasion I couldn’t find the jig and used said method with perfectly satisfactory results.
