Hattons Genesis 4wh & 6wh coaches

Contacted Hattons about these forthcoming coaches. For those who have not yet seen the photos they are generic 4 & 6wh types.  Careful study indicates that the 4 wh ones are likely based on London Chatham & Dover, as preserved on the Bluebell.

Very disappointed though to hear from Hattons that they are not designed as to be regauged, “work would be necessary on the chassis”.  Another missed opportunity.

This really annoys me. Perhaps we can’t/don’t expect Bachmann and Hornby to make life easier for EM modellers, but surely we should have some sway over the smaller companies. Do we make representations to them?

Perhaps this could be the responsibility of a Board member already liaising with ‘The Trade’ in connection with expos?

Perhaps the better news is that it is understood that Accurascale do take regauging into account when designing.  However if they can do it, why not the rest?  As Hattons are suppliers as opposed to proprietary manufacturers it is all the more of an issue that they apparently are not interested in the finescale end of the hobby.  Their loss, and ours.  I seem to have spent so much of the last 50 years “carving plastic” that the appeal has worn thin by now!  The modern plastics are harder and more durable than earlier, which makes them more difficult to work on.

I contacted Accurascale with regard to regauging their Manor and their reply was that they had not made any provision for that unlike with their Deltic. They said it was entirely down to the customer to determine how to convert that model or if whether or not it would be a feasible proposition to attempt to do so.

Disappointing about the Accurascale Manor.

Has anyone successfully regauged the Kernow/EFE/Bachmann Beattie Well Tank?   Tempting but looks really tight from the photos.  Have not had one in my hand to physically measure up.

At Dolgellau model railway August bank holiday, sadly last hurrah for this superb 16.5 depiction of Dolgellau & Penmaenpool in the 1950s as room must be vacated. It is hoped to re-home it elsewhere.

Genesis 6 wheel coaches in LNWR livery were there to see, superb quality detail and finish, could not fault.  Running – a disaster, even in 16.5!  They would not hold the track for more than a very few feet at most.  Closer examination. Although centre wheelset assembly has plenty of sideplay, there is No wiggle room at all otherwise;  outer axles are in rigid w-irons integral with the main chassis.  The wheel profile is near P4. As wheel faces are almost hard up to the inside of the axle boxes suspect that the axles may be non-standard length. From what I could see the only way to rectify is to cut out axleboxes and start over again using etched components, the really tight space makes it tricky though, for one I would not be willing to tackle it.  The supplied arrangement may well be to scale but at an unrealistic cost to practicality.

This copy of the LBSCR Modellers Digest contains a review of the Hattons Genesis coaches. Mostly about the livery, but there is a suggestion that adding a bit more weight may improve running?
