        Hi,

I have just purchased a set of EM Concrete Sleepers Bases and Code 83 FB rail from the store.  The rail is a very very tight fit in the track bases.

PECO code 82 would probably be a better fit but is is no longer made and the C&L and PECO code 83 is well undersize.

I persevered with the EMGS code 83 and EM Concrete Sleeper Base.   You simply need to modify the rail.  It only needs 0.01mm taken off the base width and you can do that by running the rail through some wet and dry.  Then the rail slides in far easier.

The rail has the right inclination (1:20) in the base and is exactly 18.2mm between the inside of the rail heads measured at the top.

        Patrick

That’s good to know.  If only the problem with tight-fitting bullhead rail was that easy to fix!

          Thanks Patrick.

Thank you.  Yes, the much wider base helps but you could try the same method on the bullhead rail, we we are only talking about removing less than a thou and even if it off the head as well, who is going to notice?

Good idea.  I’ll give it a whirl, although it might be a month or three before I get round to it.  Prevailing wisdom is that the web of the bullhead rail is too thick, but I’m not convinced.

The centre of 12in scale 95lb/yd bullhead rail is 3/4in thick.

Yes, the prototype is just over 3/4 inch thick.. But the model rail web is a scale over 1 inch thick.
