KeymasterHi Everyone,
I’m just making a start in EM, coming over from O. I’ve built a number of kits now and am looking at my first loco.Has anyone converted the DJ models 1361 loco to EM yet? Would it make a suitable first try?
I’m looking at GWR tank engines so it’s a toss up between this and building a chassis for the 14xx. I’m looking at the high level kits chassis with either Markits or Gibson wheels. Does anyone have any experience of this please that they’d be able to share?
Or does anyone have another suggestion of where to start?
Thanks,
Doug -

ParticipantHi, a few other threads have confirmed that attempts to EM the DJ drive train have proved problematic, to say the least! You will need to build a new chassis for this one. Good one to chose for your first attempt? All the best, Dai Davies

KeymasterThanks David – I’d seen the thread on converting the 14xx but was interested if anyone had done the 1361.
It sounds like one to avoid for now.
Thanks,

Hi,
I’d strongly suggest the High Level chassis for the 14xx. I’ve built a couple of High Level kits now (illustrated in part on the web) and they are an absolute joy to build.
I’m planning to take the 14xx kit to the Missenden Spring Weekend in a couple of weeks time. I may be posting some pictures from that as work in progress/a live build diary. I’ll let you know afterwards how I get on…
Cheers

KeymasterThanks Paul.
I’ve ordered the High Level chassis and some wheels from Alan Gibson. I’m just waiting for all the bits to arrive now. If you do document your progress I’ll be very interested.I’ve got a body for the loco too so let’s see how I get on.
Cheers,

Hi Doug,
It’s been a while since I had time to start writing up my 48xx build, but I’ve now started. I had a great time at Missenden with it.
You’ll find the story with words and pictures starts here: https://www.scalefour.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=6821&p=73761#p73761

Hi Doug,
It’s taken a while for me to find the time, but the build sequence now starts here
