Has anyone converted the Bachmann breakdown crane to EM? If so please could you advise what wheelsets are required.

        Thanks,

        Mike

Not sure you’ll get many replies to this, at least in the short term, as I doubt if that many have been sold yet, let alone converted. I would take out an axle of each sort of wheel, measure the wheel diameter, and look up the corresponding Alan Gibson wheelset. Going by other Bachmann ventures, I guess you will not be able to pull out the Bachmann wheelsets: the bogie widths would probably not permit the wide Bachmann flanges. This is purely speculation on my part! I have no access, or money, to the breakdown train.

Richard Proudmann at Bachmann has kindly checked and advises that all are 12.97 mm discs. Now need to find a supplier or settle for 12 mm discs.

Yes, I have converted mine to EM, and a colleague has done his too.
Both of us simply re gauged the Bachmann wheels, and they run fine! Brakes need a bit of tweaking in a few places, otherwise it was straightforward.

                    Hello David,
for P4 I think it will be very tight on the main carriage, but worth looking at.
