On Gerald Grudgings saidThese have been a basis for conversions and upgrading for many years.
For a while 3D seating units have been available for them. However there are now 3-centre roofs, a direct replacement for the original. This opens up many more possibilities; the original roofs were not easy to alter. These new roofs are undecorated, there are dits on the bottom which can be drilled through to allow accurate positioning of lamptops or to position vents to taste. It would appear that about 20% of late 19C GWR coaches were low roof, however if the grab handles are replaced they can be re-imagined for many lines.
They will never compete with the latest RTR offerings but are in a different cost league. Like many if I had the latest RTRs I would be reluctant to carve them about. The interiors and roofs are obtainable at: dcresinreplicas.co.uk
I have no financial interest in this but started the ball rolling about the roofs some 12 months ago and have been working with the manufacturer on the design. They were tricky to get right, especially to get a snug fit where the cantrail meet the roof edge. They seem strong enough not to need the retaining screw but the option is there.
Who can provide these rooves, and the seating, please?
