K’s Dean Goods – possible conversion

I have acquired at no cost a K’s Dean Goods built up kit which has never been run but stored. I have stripped it down completely and am starting to clean up & de-rust the loco wheels and axles.

I’m thinking of converting it to EM gauge for my GWR project but that will probably mean a new motor and gears and, I suspect, new wheels & axles. The existing axles are 3mm dia and have a ‘D’ on the ends to locate in the wheel. The wheels appear to be left/right handed as their ‘D’ is 90 degrees out on each side thus creating the quartering. Are wheels & axles available for this at a reasonable price?

If this is going to be a viable EM project or should I simply clean it all up, put it back together and use it as an OO Club hack?
