Dapol have announced plans to produce the popular GWR 517 class loco as a ready to run, to be available towards the end of 2025. They have chosen the modified version with outside bearings to the pony truck – would not have been my choice but so be it. This alteration only took place on locos with persistent problems with the inside bearings, and was far from universal.
It will be a good candidate for starters, I’ve taken the liberty of contacting them at this early stage to try to persuade them to allow space within the splashers and pony truck for regauging to EM or P4. Modern plastics are increasingly difficult to work on, especially trying to shave away within a restricted space.
Let us hope someone takes note!
