    Thanks Paul – apologies for the (nearly) year long delay in replying – I should be better at checking the EMGS forums.

    Well spotted! ’21 never carried this livery – or at least it never carried the Bullied number 21C21 and ‘SOUTHERN’ branding on the tender, with exposed ‘New Zealand line’ plates.

    Being a resident of said country, I thought, what if they built 11 engines as part of the second batch? With ’21 being built a year earlier than it was in reality – September 1947, vs it’s actual build date of September 1947? Then I could use the Hornby base model and have something, somewhat plausible complete with the not-so-original cab.

    It’s a work of fiction, further compounded by the fact that i’m working on Bricklayers Arms, which didn’t have any Merchants in ’47. But who cares, it’s my own interpretation of the much maligned “Rule 1”.
