After a certain amount of dithering I decided that the photo of 27525 showed a hint of shading on the lettering, which meant it was probably Gilt after all, shaded black. I had some of these on an SMS waterslide sheet that I had bought more than 35 years ago, so they were used. With decal softener, a coat of gloss varnish, and finally the weathering, I managed to make the carrier film disappear.
Overall I’m pleased with how it turned out, though I still think it would have been easier to scratchbuild the body, and use the Branchlines chassis and detail pack. The running though is smooth and quiet, and to my surprise I find I now have 30 loco’s available for use!
