Some more tips:
1. Convert any OO loco to EM first, test and then convert to radio control. I made the mistake of converting in one hit. The locomotive runs OK but stutters occasionally and derails at turnouts; I suspect the bogie (spring?) to be the villain in the latter case. Sorting out the former will be long-winded.
2. The 601 receiver fails to keep its Selecta binding. I suspect I damaged it, probably in forcing it through the bunker hole. So make the hole in the bunker-chassis interface generous.
3. I discovered the battery will lie flat against the coal load. In this position, it is less likely to move on reassembly. This also makes it easier to get the coal moulding to lie flat on the bunker top.
