On Stuart Firth saidThat paintwork looks superb – have you repainted them, or polished up the original finish?
Thanks Stuart.
I’ve fully stripped and repainted them both. I use Mr Finishing Surface 1500 in black, as a base. This has some filling properties and is an excellent primer with lots of pigment. I then spray on a few light coats of any lacquer based black, usually satin/semi gloss. Finished with Mr Color Super Clear III, which gives it the almost impossibly shiny finish that 1748 has. All of this is thinned with Mr Color self leveling thinner, and all of the above is lacquer based.
The transfers are from HMRS, sealed with one light coat and one thicker coat of the clear. Once that’s cured and hard the weathering is done with my own mix of enamel. This isn’t perfect, or as good as some others efforts. But I’m able to get that tonal variety between gloss and matt areas.
