After 3 or 4 years exiled in the corner of the garage having been boxed up for some home improvements Cliddesden has been unpacked.  It has fired fairly well with just a bit of cleaning up and some maintenance it is running with only the uncoupling magnets not working at present.  The only drawback is that robbing from the garage to extend the kitchen means I can no longer erect the fiddle yard boards, but I was never that happy with them so they will be rebuilt at a later date.  I have new found enthusiasm as well as new ideas as a result of building Test Valley Sidings, which now sits on shelf brackets above Cliddesden.  TVS is about 5 foot above the ground, so great for my personal viewing.

I like the idea of double-decking the layouts, which is something on my own agenda. The possibility of using a space two-fold appeals, with one theme/period on one level and another theme/period on the other.

“More power to your elbow”, as they say. 🙂

They are both the same period, Test Valley Sidings was started when Cliddesden was packed away as I needed something to play with.  TVS has been constructed using largely recycled bits and pieces, it just grew like Topsy, there are two boards that can be attached to either end, not really fiddle yards but just off scene areas.  The main running line has a shuttle unit fitted and a DMU shuttles up and down while I shunt a few wagons about.  It is a very useful test track and I couldn’t face boxing it away in the corner.  It has in fact been to a couple of shows so there is always something moving and as a bonus it all fits in the back of my Peugeot 207CC.
